I have found a photograph of my great grandfather John Napier meeting King George VI and the Queen. I have no idea as to why he was meeting them.
As far as I have been able to ascertain, the photo was taken during the Royal visit to Clydeside on June 4th 1942.
I do know that on my great grandfathers death certificate in 1945, his occupation was listed as Crane Supervisor at the Clyde Trust.
If anyone has any ideas as to why my great grandfather and some others were all in a receiving line to meet the Royals I would be grateful
Thank you
Allyson

Hi Allymac
Welcome to SFT!
This was a Royal visit by the King and Queen and there is a 2 page article in the Scotsman newspaper dated 5th June 1942 with all the details. Unfortunately, I can't post it here as this is an 'open section' of the forum for free members.
They were on a visit to the West of Scotland and made various 'stop offs' along the way, one of which was a sail down the River Clyde. They visited a 'Clyde shipbuilding establishment' (not named) and met various people throughout their trip, which is probably when your grt grandfather John Napier met them!
What a great photograph to have in your possession! _________________

Well, it seems that a Ministry of Labour rivetting school was set up in April 1941 in a disused shipyard Jordanvale, Clydeside which had the capacity for 700 boys per annum, so perhaps it was the official opening of this that sparked the meeting. _________________ www.scotlandsfamilytree.moonfruit.com

That might be the Clyde Navigation Trust he was employed by, it was responsible for the river and the quays. |
