The following site has all the volumes of the Fasti of the Established Church - http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=title%3A%28fasti%20ecclesi%C3%A6%29 , free to download in various formats. The Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae The Succession of Scottish Ministers in the Church of Scotland from the Reformation, by the Rev. Hew Scott, D.D. The full list of the volumes of the 3rd edition are: Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae: the succession of ministers in the Church of Scotland. - New Edition. – Vo l.: Synod of Lothian and Tweeddale. - Edinburgh: Oliver and Boyd, 1915 Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae: the succession of ministers in the Church of Scotland. - New Edition. – Vo II. There are similar compilations of the ministers of the Free Kirk, the Episcopal Church, and one or two others, but they don't all contain the same amount of genealogically valuable biographical information. These include: History of the Congregations of the United Presbyterian Church from 1733 to 1900 by Rev. Robert Small, published in 2 volumes in 1904 at Edinburgh Annals of the Free Church of Scotland edited by Rev. William Ewing, published in 2 volumes in 1914 at Edinburgh The Fasti of the United Free Church of Scotland 1900-1929 edited by John Lamb, published at Edinburgh in 1956 (Note that many of the ministers of the Free Kirk from 1843 will appear in the Established Church Fasti.) The Reformed Presbyterian Church in Scotland, its congregations, ministers and students by William J. Couper, published at Edinburgh in 1925 History of the Scottish Episcopal Church from the Revolution to the Present Time by John P. Lawson, published at Edinburgh in 1843 A Short History of the Episcopal Church in Scotland from the Restoration to the Present Time by Frederick Goldie, published in 1952 The Scottish Congregational Ministry 1794-1993 by Rev. Dr. William D. McNaughton, published in 1993 at Glasgow by the Congregational Union of Scotland A History of Scottish Congregationalism by Harry Escott, published in 1960 Barney

But then that's why I'm interested in continuing to be a member of SFT ! Nice one !! Is there any time period limit on this info?, - in other words, once the Established Church of Scotland lost its link to the state in the 1920s, were such appointments still reported in The Gazette ? Barney

Barney, I am not sure if there is a time period limit, but, here is a sample of what is there: "WHITEHALL, December 22, 1830. The King has been pleased to order a letter to be directed to the Chapter of the Cathedral Church of Hereford, recommending unto them the Honotirable and Reverend Edward Grey, A. M. to be chosen into the place of Dean of the said Cathedral Church, the same being void by the death of the Reverend .Edward Mellish." from the edinburgh Gazette 31 Dec 1890. I only came across this when I was searching on a family name. You can also enter the church name and get hits Dave

Dave The example relates to the Church of England. I'm no expert on CofE organisation but I believe that it's still the case that certain appointments are "in the gift" of the monarch. What would be interesting to know is whether there is similar info relating to the Established Church of Scotland, perhaps in the Edinburgh Gazette; most likely restricted to the time period when the heritor had the right to appoint the minister. Hi Barney, I knew I had seen it in relation to Scottish churches: From the 19th of Dec 1837, London Gazette Whitehall December } 6, 1S37. The Queen has been pleased to present the Reverend John Pollock to the church and parish of Baldernock, in the presbytery of Dumbarton and county of Stirling, vacant by the transportation of the Reverend Henry Monirieff to the parish of East Kilbride. Dave PS thsi is my 1000th post!!

Hi Barney, I had a wee look at your original post and opened one of the books. They are a fantastic reference (unfortunately there is no clergyman in my tree) and quite fascinating reading. Dave
